Sokaklarda polis terör estiriyor, yüzbinlerce kadın sokaklarda sadece ’iyi örtünmedikleri’ gerekçesiyle uyarı ya da cezalar alıyor. Hırsızlık yaptıkları gerekçesiyle eli kesilenler, gözleri çıkarılanlar, kırbaçlananların sayısını bilen yok. Ayrıca cezaevlerinde ağır işkencelerin yanısıra kötü koşullardan dolayı sık sık ölüm haberleri geliyor.

The Ilisu Dam project will submerge the magnificent cultural and natural richness of the ancient city of Hasankeyf and severely impact the Tigris Valley downstream. Some 75.000 thousand will be evicted to make way for the project. Construction work has been going on since the spring of 2010 in the village nearest to the dam and in a resettlement site at “New Hasankeyf”. In spite of protests by the affected local peoples and widespread criticism from people and organizations both in Turkey and internationally, this destructive project is still being carried out!

In the Sur Municipality of Diyarbakır (south-eastern Turkey) led by the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), half of the salaries of six employees are paid to their wives because of domestic violence. Deputy Mayor Gülbahar Örmek explains: “This strengthens the economic situation of the women and gives them support in the struggle against violence.”
The Diyarbakır Centre Sur District Municipality, the Turkish Municipalities and the trade union for municipal workers (Belediye-İş) signed a collective labour agreement in April this year with retrospective effect for 2010. Article 64, entitled Family Protection Law, includes provisions against domestic and economic violence and polygamy:

The members of the platform, which was founded by democratic mass organizations in İstanbul, once more drew attention to woman murders.
Making a statement in the name of platform members, who chanted slogans like “Our body is our identity, our labor is ours”, Özüm Arslanoğlu told the stories of Gülbeyaz Arslan, whose throat was cut by her partner Ferdi Sevim in Bahçelievler(İstanbul) and the story of Ayten Kıvılcım, who disappeared almost one month ago and and was then found stabbed in the forested land 500 meters away from her house.
Stating that 27 women died in the last 27 days ’0n the basis of so-called isolated reasons, arrested murderers make advantage of the “unjust provocation” provision, enacted by the article 29 in the Turkish Penal Code’ remarked Arslanoğlu.
